During
the fall of 2013, I wrote and sent a letter to all of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve (except Dallin Oaks). I did not mail the
letters at the same time, but I sent the same letter to all of them.
I
received a letter dated January 6, 2014. It was from Brook P. Hales,
secretary to the First Presidency.

Elder _______________,
I
am writing in response to Dieter F. Uchtdorf's general conference talk. I did not listen to conference, but a family member sent me a
copy of his talk. Do you really want people like me in your church?
Here
is a little background about me: I am happily married and enjoy being
the mother of 11 children. Both my husband and I served full time
missions for the LDS church. I have attended church regularly
throughout my life, and for most of my adult life have attended the
temple on a weekly basis. As a family we have contributed hundreds
of thousands of dollars to fund church operations.
A
little over two years ago things changed for me in regards to my
relationship with the church. We were talking about prophets in
relief society, and I asked a few questions. I wondered why we were
required to follow the counsel of the first presidency and quorum of
the twelve without receiving a confirming witness from God. I also
wondered where is the precedence showing that the president of the
church won't be allowed to lead us astray? If that is true, Caiaphas
would never have been allowed to be the High Priest of the church.
These
few questions caused enough of a stir that I was reported to the
bishop, called in, chastised, threatened, punished, and silenced. I
have been without a temple recommend since that day. I told the
bishop that I sustain you in your calling, but the Lord has not yet
confirmed to me that you are a prophet, seer, and revelator.
So,
for the past two years I've stayed at home and enjoyed taking care of
my little ones while I pray and study the scriptures. Even though my
husband was also punished, he still takes some of our children to
church. Just this last summer, I received word from some of the
youth workers that the bishop directed all of the auxiliaries to shut
down and silence the questions of the Willis children. I wonder what
kind of adult is intimidated by the questions of a child.
So
I ask, “Is President Uchtdorf talking to people like me or is his
message directed toward some other type of member?”
In
an attempt to find answers to my questions, I am asking the men who
know the answers to my questions?
Are
you a prophet of the Lord Jesus Christ as defined by Joseph Smith
and the scriptures? Have you been sanctified, come into the presence
of the Lord, and been ordained by God himself? Have you seen heaven
and hell? Are you a member of the church of the firstborn? See quotes

to the question, Was the Priesthood of Melchizedek taken away when
Moses died? All Priesthood is Melchizedek, but there are different
portions or degrees of it. That portion which brought Moses to speak
with God face to face was taken away; but that which brought the

“Salvation
cannot come without revelation; it is in vain for anyone to minister
without it. No man is a minister of Jesus Christ without being a

salvation has been administered, it has been by testimony. Men of the
present time testify of heaven and hell, and have never seen either;
and I will say that no man knows these things without this.” p.

Do
you sustain the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints as the Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and as the only person on
the earth who possesses and is authorized to exercise all priesthood
keys? Do you sustain members of the First Presidency and the Quorum
of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you
sustain the other General Authorities and local authorities of the
Church?
Do
you really want people like me in your church? Can I come as I am
with all my questions and thoughts? If so, let me know.

Joseph Smith, who stood in the presence of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, testified that a person must be able to testify of these things in order to claim to be a prophet or seer. None of the fifteen who are sustained as such by the LDS Church was willing to make such a claim. It would be dishonest for anyone to place words in their mouths that they are unwilling to speak or write. Is there any scriptural precedent to contradict Joseph's assertions? I can come up with none. In fact, we have the entire volume of the Book of Mormon that supports Joseph's assertions. The meaning is thus abundantly clear.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I love the letter you wrote to the leaders of the LDS church. It contains eternal truths that if ignored, or worse if lied about, will certainly bring damnation to the one guilty of disregard or dishonesty. I glory in truth and you have shed a bit more of it through this letter. -Thank you! The Secretary to the First Presidency (and by extension the members of that presidency) has given us an answer that will hopefully help many others come to the knowledge of truth as well. All church leaders should be willing to call a spade a spade. Their unwillingness to do so saddens me. Promulgation of a lie by one in such an authoritative position will not be looked lightly upon by the Lord, especially when done in the name of the Lord as is so often done. This is taking the Lord's name in vain. Sadly, they create their own demise. This scripture comes to mind:

God have mercy on them and on me and all who are seeking for truth!
Rather than ask others if they are prophets, why not ask the Lord to become a prophet?

DeleteThat's what Moses encouraged. Numbers 11:29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!
This is what we have to look forward to:
96 For I, the Almighty, have laid my hands upon the nations, to scourge them for their wickedness.
97 And plagues shall go forth, and they shall not be taken from the earth until I have completed my work, which shall be cut short in righteousness—
98 Until all shall know me, who remain, even from the least unto the greatest, and shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, and shall see eye to eye, and shall lift up their voice, and with the voice together sing this new song, saying . . . D&C 84
Well, now come on fellahs. We all "sorta" know that these guys are NOT Prophets, Seers and Revelators. Its kind of an unspoken reality we live with, but we kinda wink, wink and don't talk about this and life in the Church moves on. But here's a nice little experiment that you can perform in your Ward, ANY ward. Ask the simple question, "What did President Thomas S. Monson teach in the last General Conference?" I doubt ANYONE in your Ward has a clue. Yet, we are told that the "word of the Living Prophet is MORE important than that of the dead prophets" You would think if that were the case, every Church member would struggle to tell you Bible and Book of Mormon stories, but would be JOHNNY on the spot with the most recent messages from the Lord as delivered through "His Prophets, Seers and Revelators". But such is not the case. The way we talk about our faith and what we know of it, you'd think we were Baptists who could quote Bible scriptures, but couldn't remember that last sermon given by our Pastor. This is part of the cognitive dissonance that most Mormons suffer, believing two conflicting things at the same time and may the twain NEVER meet.
