A witness from God can be relied upon. As you read our thoughts, beliefs, and experiences, we invite you to obtain a witness for yourself. If something we say or imply does not ring true, then you should feel no obligation to accept it. Life is an individual and unique journey with God. Although we can help and encourage each other, we need to be careful not to come between God and another person.

Keys, Keys! Who has the Keys?

Today in priesthood the teacher made a few comments and then asked a question. I thought it was a really good question. Here's what he basically said: The Catholic Church claims to hold the keys of the priesthood received from Peter. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints claims to possess the keys of the priesthood received from Joseph Smith. Who actually has the keys?

I wonder if the Mormons have the keys? Do the Catholics possess the keys? Who else has the keys? Maybe the Jews have the keys because they claim authority from Moses. hmm:) How many sets of keys are there?

  1. We are told in the latter day scriptures that the Book of Mormon contains the "fulness of the gospel." (D&C 20:9). Since the gospel contains what is necessary for our salvation, I would expect that the Book of Mormon contains all we need to know and do to return to our Father's presence and what keys are needed.

With respect to these keys, I fully believe that the 'prophets, seers, and revelators' of the current LDS church have full control of the 'keys' as described in the Book of Mormon. In fact, they have demonstrated these keys to their fullest in these last few years.

There is only one reference to any 'keys' in the Book of Mormon. Here it is:

"... And as I went forth towards the treasury of Laban, behold, I saw the servant of Laban who had the keys of the treasury. And I commanded him in the voice of Laban, that he should go with me into the treasury."
    (1 Nephi 4:20)

The keys to the treasury... Yes, those are the only keys described in the Book of Mormon.

    1. How did the current LDS leaders get their keys? Do they control the keys or does God? What can they do with their keys? What have they done in the last few years to demostrate full use of their keys?
